Match Report | Norwich City 0-2 Ipswich Town

Norwich City fell to defeat against Ipswich Town in a 2-0 loss on Saturday lunchtime at Carrow Road.

Both goals came in the first half, the visitors opening the scoring from the spot through Jaden Philogene and George Hirst claiming the second.

Philippe Clement named an unchanged starting 11 for the game, only bringing in Ruairi McConville to replace Jakov Medić on the bench.

Although it was a steady start from both sides, the visitors were given the first advantage with a penalty just inside 10 minutes, after a suspected foul from Anis Ben Slimane.

Philogene stepped up and converted into the bottom right corner to give Ipswich the lead.

Vladan Kovačević was called into action shortly after to deny Hirst, when a Town free-kick was delivered to him waiting in the area.

City's in-form player Pelle Mattsson had the first effort at goal for Norwich but at an awkward angle, was unable to turn and find the target.

The Dane had the next effort for the Canaries, finding space to shoot outside the area, but Christian Walton was equal to it.

Just as Kovačević pulled out a big save to deny Hirst with his feet, the Town number nine bested the City stopper with his next effort to put the visitors two ahead at the break.

Into the second half and Slimane had an effort on target saved by Walton after he had picked the ball up just inside the visitor's half.

Kenny McLean fed substitute Mohamed Touré the perfect ball into the box, the Australian dragging his shot wide of the post.

A cagey 20 minutes followed, as neither side could get a grasp of the game to test either goalkeeper.

Paris Maghoma was set-up to shoot by Ali Ahmed for the final chance of the match, but the midfielder was unable to find the target.

The Canaries are next in action on Saturday, April 18 with a trip to Bristol City.
