First-half goals from Harry Darling and Josh Sargent were enough to secure Norwich City's first Sky Bet Championship points of the season in a 2-1 win against Portsmouth.
Vladan Kovačević was hailed a hero for a penalty save in the second half of the game at Fratton Park and despite a late goal from the hosts, City were victorious on the road.
Liam Manning made three changes to the side that suffered opening day defeat against Millwall; Papa Amadou Diallo, Emiliano Marcondes and Marcelino Núñez making their way into the starting 11.
It took the Canaries just six minutes to find their lead, a free-kick taken by Núñez found the head of Darling, who had plenty of time to nod home Norwich's first.
The Canaries were almost able to double the lead instantaneously, Ante Crnac recovering possession and sending Sargent through on goal, but Nicolas Schmid was there to deny the American with a big save.
Kovačević was required to spring into action in Portsmouth's first attack, blocking a strong effort from Regan Poole.
Norwich did then double their lead after José Córdoba flicked on a long throw into the box and Sargent was able to tap in from the back post.
The hosts quickly came looking for a response, Colby Bishop with an effort that had to be blocked by Núñez.
The Chilean then tried to further extend City's lead down the other end, rifling a shot from distance that only narrowly missed the target.
The second half opened with two changes for City, Oscar Schwartau coming on for the full 45 minutes and Jacob Wright replacing Núñez, who had picked up a knock late in the first half.
Andre Dozzell had an effort fly narrowly high of Kovačević after shooting from the edge of the area with 20 minutes to go.
The hosts were then given an opportunity to pull one back after a mistimed challenge from Kellen Fisher meant Pompey were awarded a penalty with 10 minutes to play.
Colby Bishop stepped up but Kovačević dove the right way and saved his kick from the spot.
Portsmouth did, however, pull one back through Adrian Segečić, whose effort from the edge of the area found its way past the Serbian stopper with six minutes left on the clock.
Trying to relieve the late pressure for City, Crnac turned an effort goalwards but could only drag his shot wide of Schmid's goal.
John Swift had fans on their feet after rattling the crossbar in the dying minutes of the game but it wasn't enough for an equaliser, meaning the Canaries headed home to Norfolk with all three points.
