Match Report | Norwich City 1-2 Millwall

Norwich City fell to defeat on the opening day of the 2025/26 Sky Bet Championship season, losing at home to Millwall.

In Liam Manning's first competitive game as Canaries head coach, there would be full debuts for five summer arrivals as Vladan Kovačević, Jakov Medić, Harry Darling, Jeffrey Schlupp and Mirko Topić were all given starts.

Debutant Topić would register the game's first opportunity, with Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga getting in the way of the Serbian's curled effort.

Jacob Wright saw a bending free-kick saved well by goalkeeper Steven Benda as the Canaries went in search of the opening goal.

Amankwah Forson also came close via a free-kick, but the Ghanaian international's effort was over the crossbar.

Late on in the first half, Kovačević reacted well to deny a snapshot from Mihailo Ivanović.

Six minutes into the second half, the away side took the lead. A ball from Tristan Crama found its way to Neghli, who fired beyond Kovačević.

But the Canaries weren't behind for long. Four minutes after going behind, Josh Sargent charged down Millwall goalkeeper Benda and blocked an attempted clearance, with the ball looping over the Millwall 'keeper and going straight in.

There would be another City debut an hour into the contest, with Mathias Kvistgaarden replacing Forson for his Championship bow.

Femi Azeez should've restored Millwall's lead as Ivanović cut the ball back across goal, but the former fired over the crossbar from close range.

Ben Chrisene, who replaced Schlupp after 70 minutes, could've given Norwich the lead after being found by a Jacob Wright cross, but couldn't sort his feet out to get a shot away.

With seven minutes to go, Alex Neil's side went back in front. Macaulay Langstaff latched onto a ball in-behind from Alfie Doughty and calmly slotted beyond the Norwich 'keeper.

The Canaries are in Carabao Cup action midweek, travelling away to Watford in round one of the competition on Tuesday night (KO 7.45pm).
