Graham Torrington Returns to Broadland with New Evening Retreat Show

One of the most recognisable voices in evening radio is returning to Broadland with a brand-new show designed to help listeners switch off from the day and ease into the evening.

Broadland has announced the return of Graham Torrington, who will present Graham Torrington’s Evening Retreat, Sunday to Thursday from 7pm until 10pm.

For many listeners across Norfolk and North Suffolk, Graham’s voice will bring back fond memories of Late Night Love, the hugely popular evening programme heard on Broadland and commercial radio stations across the UK for many years.

Now, Graham is returning to Broadland with a new show for a new time of the evening.

Graham Torrington’s Evening Retreat will be a place to leave the stresses of the day behind, unwind and enjoy three hours of great music and warm company.

Rather than being a slow or sleepy listen, the programme will have a relaxed, feel-good sound – providing a soundtrack for everything from putting your feet up after work to cooking dinner, enjoying a glass of wine, relaxing in the garden or simply taking some much-needed time for yourself.

Every evening at 8pm, Graham will turn down the pressure with the 8 O’Clock Stress Busters – 30 minutes of uninterrupted music chosen to help listeners relax, reset and escape from the demands of the day.

Then, from 9pm, Graham will draw on the style of broadcasting which made him one of the best-known voices in late-night radio, selecting 30 minutes of the finest love songs to bring the Evening Retreat to a suitably warm and relaxing close.

Graham Torrington said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to be coming back to Broadland. I know there are listeners who will remember Late Night Love and the evenings we spent together all those years ago, so it feels very special to be returning.

“The Evening Retreat is about giving people somewhere to escape to at the end of the day. Life is busy, there’s always something demanding our attention, and sometimes you just need a few hours where you can put all of that behind you.

“It won’t be three hours of slow music – far from it. We’ll have some fantastic songs, plenty of warmth and good company, but everything will have that more relaxed evening feel. And, of course, I couldn’t come back without finding room for some great love songs too. I’m really looking forward to spending my evenings with Broadland listeners again.”

Bob Norman, Managing Director of Broadland, said:

“We are thrilled to welcome Graham Torrington back to Broadland. Graham is one of those rare broadcasters whose voice immediately creates a connection with the listener, and he has a very special history with the Broadland audience.

“Thousands of people across our area will remember listening to Graham and Late Night Love, but this isn’t simply about recreating something from the past. The Evening Retreat takes everything Graham does brilliantly and gives it a fresh setting for today’s listener.

“We want Broadland to be part of people’s lives throughout the day, and Graham is the perfect person to take over in the evening – helping listeners put the day behind them, enjoy some brilliant music and spend a few hours in great company. We couldn’t be happier to have him back.”

Graham has spent decades broadcasting on commercial and BBC radio and became particularly associated with evening and late-night programmes, with his distinctive broadcasting style making him a familiar voice to listeners across the country.

His return marks another major addition to Broadland’s schedule as the station continues to develop its locally focused service for listeners across Norfolk and North Suffolk.

Graham Torrington’s Evening Retreat will be heard on Broadland Sunday to Thursday, 7pm–10pm.

8 O’Clock Stress Busters: 8pm–8.30pm
Graham’s Love Songs: 9pm–9.30pm

Listeners can hear Broadland on DAB+, online, through the Broadland app and on smart speakers.
